CHICKEN N EGG DEBATE
Read this article yesterday in the forum section of the TODAY paper. It wrote that the service quality in Singapore has been deterioting and that many people seem to play the waiting game -insisting the service staff will be polite only if the customers are and vice versa. Personally i've encountered many rude service staff in shops and in eateries. I think it isn't easy to change the mentality of these staff....Some advocate using monetary incentives to entice them to be more courteous, i think thats lame and aritifical...wouldn't it so fake? I think it is more important to make it a country wide culture....Not only should Singapore be known as a Garden City, maybe we could thrive towards a Polite City.... As Singapore is moving to an increasing global society, to remain competitive, no doubt monetary rewards can move people towards better service but should that be our sole motivation at work. I'm sure there is much individual satifaction derived from a job well done and a thank you smile in return for your efforts.
